1970

  • Bylaws changed to remove lame-duck period for elected officials. (They take posts immediately.)
  • Bylaws also changed to provide for the election of a president-elect.
  • Dr. Henry Fox made official lobbyist.
  • AEDS national convention held in Miami Beach. It was the most successful in AEDS history to that point.
  • Membership around 250 individuals.
  • FAEDS drafts resolution in support of the SIRS(?) Project which was in jeopardy due to budget cuts.
  • Mary Esther Raker elected president.
  • Alton R. Kindred elected FAEDS first president-elect.
  • Sims Scholarship changed from a loan to a grant.
  • Fall Conference held in Sarasota.
  • Everett Yarbrough given Sims Memorial Award.
1971
  • First Sims Scholarship grants given to Diane Rupert (Hillsborough Community College) and David Cooper (Tallahassee Community College).
  • Dr. William R. Odom elected president-elect.
  • Spring workshop held in Daytona Beach. Fall workshop held in West Palm Beach.
  • Sims Memorial Award presented to Dr. Alton Kindred.
1972
  • Production of the Job Stream newsletter moves out of the State D. O. E. and becomes an in-house operation.
  • Sims Scholarship awarded to Louis Gonzalez (Miami) and Pamela Brock (New Smyrna Beach). Pamela Brock later declined scholarship, and it was instead given to Douglas Hill (University of Florida).
  • Membership over 250.
  • Dr. Archie Johnston elected president-elect.
  • Fall workshop held in Cocoa Beach(?).

1973
  • Randy Johns elected president-elect.
  • Sims Award to Raymond Parker.
1974
  • Dave Daniels elected president-elect.
1975
  • First attempt at preparing a manual explaining the responsibilities of each elected office.
  • Jack Kelly elected president-elect.
  • Fall Conference held in conjunction with FASBA (Florida Association of School Budget Administrators) in Orlando.
1976
  • Summer conference held at Treasure Island.
  • President-elect was Ray Parker.
1977
  • Charles Lee elected president-elect.
  • Sims Award presented to Randall Johns.
1978
  • First mention of FAEDS coordinated Installation Profile in extant minutes.
  • First year of conducting elections by mail-in ballots.
  • Membership back up to around 250 after a slight decrease in previous years.
  • Summer Conference held in West Palm Beach.
  • Sims Scholarship awarded to Karen Ann Oaks (Edison Community College) and Stephen Slessinger (Seminole Community College).
  • William English awarded the first FAEDS Honorary Lifetime Membership.
  • Jack Kelly elected chairman of the AEDS Council of Geographic Affiliates.
  • Fall Conference held in Orlando.
  • William English brought on as the FAEDS Executive Secretary.
  • President-elect was Mike Staggs.
  • Michael Staggs awarded Sims Award.
  • July 23, 1978 - first written documentation of Ray Parker (now past-president) making his famous motion to adjourn.
1979
  • FAEDS receives AEDS ŇOutstanding Geographic ChapterÓ Award.
  • Membership over 260.
  • Orlando chosen as site of 1982 AEDS National Convention.
  • Spring Conference held in St. Petersburg.
  • Sarasota host of Fall Conference.
  • Motion passed to conduct only one conference per year. It will be held in the Fall (beginning in 1981).
  • FAEDS president or designee to sit on FECN (Florida Educational Computing Network, precursor to FIRN) Steering Committee.
  • President-elect was Ronald McCord.
  • Honorary lifetime memberships awarded to Dr. Henry Fox, Dr. Robert Gates, Shirley Molen, and Everett Yarbrough.
  • Sims Award to Laymon Grays.
  • Aid to FAEDS Award to Jack Kelly.
